The final investments of the decade at PSV

Another great year (and decade) has passed. Feeling old yet? Before fast-forwarding to a new decade and the infinite number of 2020 plans, we think it’s more than appropriate to dwell on the tale of 2019 — our investments and the new family members we welcomed to PSV.

Like in any fairy tale, two magic numbers stand out: 23 and 8. In other words, we made a total of 23 investments and had the pleasure of welcoming 8 new members to the gang.

We can’t unveil all of the newcomers just yet, but we can at least (humble)brag about some of them:

  • Dreamdata.io is a brand new marketing attribution company, but the 3 founders come from 2 of our other portfolio companies, Trustpilot & Airtame, so it wasn’t exactly beginners luck when they raised dkk 3.5m from us, Seedcamp, Futuristic.vc, The Nordic Web Ventures & David Helgason.
  • We made an investment in ThePlatypus alongside SpeedInvest and The Nordic Web Ventures. They recently reached a significant milestone, as they had their first company christmas dinner. They did also launch their data-driven solution to hiring and retaining talent.
  • Foundation, a platform for building SaaS products without writing code, is our 2nd investment with Seedcamp this year. We’re looking very much forward to work with founders Dennis Green-Lieber & Ed James on this new journey. They’ve both got extensive startup experience from e.g. Life X, Falcon Social and Founders, where they both were part of building Duuoo.
  • Wehowsky’s intelligent sensor technology can fight unknown cyberthreats in realtime. With our new investment, we look forward to support them in that battle.
Just before the year ran out we closed an investment in Deeds Capital. Another shooting star on Copenhagen’s booming startup scene.

Why founders need strong investor support early on?

There’s nothing we take more pride in than to find, finance and foster startups on the rise. The rise is what it’s all about — rising to the challenge and rising to the top is what every single founder team we invest in work for. First and foremost our job is to do everything in our power to help them in doing so.

Again this year, many of the shooting stars in the PSV family raised new impressive investment rounds. In the abc’s companies like Lunar, Forecast, Cardlay and Trustpilot all raised new rounds. Also, many of our newer portfolio companies lifted their business from pre-seed to seed stage in 2019. Some of them have already unveiled their achievements:

  • We participated in Pento’s seed round (DKK 16m), where they also got Point Nine & Seedcamp on board.
  • It’s been Abzu’s year in so many ways. They raised a seed round of DKK 13m, where we also had the joy of welcoming Inventure as an investor
  • Inventure also invested in Drugstars’s DKK 15m seed round alongside byFounders and Digital Health Ventures

We kick off the next decade with an action-packed beginning. It’s no secret that we’re aspiring to close our new commercial fund real soon (not like the endless 2020 strategies that are already collecting dust). New decade and new fund but the same purpose — helping heroic founders move and shake the universe.
