An early-stage venture fund taking bets on pioneering scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs in deep tech across the Nordics.

Founding Purpose

The purpose of PSV Hafnium is to close a critical gap in the Nordic ecosystem by providing early-stage capital that helps scale technological breakthroughs into impactful global solutions.

Deep tech founders operate under different conditions than most. Longer R&D cycles, technical risk, and an uncertain route to market. Yet these are often the technologies that reshape industries and address global challenges.

We invest at the earliest stages, where the commercial path is still forming. We back teams early, help build strong syndicates, and stay for the long haul.

How we think and move

We invest at the earliest stages in science and engineering-based startups across areas like industrial biotech, new energy, new materials, future of compute, new space, health tech, and resilience. Our focus is Nordic teams with global ambitions.

The Nordic ecosystem has strong research and engineering talent, but historically too little specialised capital at the earliest stages. PSV Hafnium takes those risks early and helps inventions make it to market.

We draw from our comprehensive understanding of the deep tech journey, and our roots at the Technical University of Denmark, to patiently help founders scale technological breakthroughs into impactful global solutions.

Operating independently, but part of something bigger. Located on the campus of DTU and being part of the PSV venture house means that we work as one extended team. Beyond capital we contribute experience and operational support. Not as a fixed program or playbook, but as a flexible way of working, that adapts to different stages, technologies and ambitions. PSV Hafnium consists of a highly experienced and purpose-driven team, bringing a complementary set of perspectives across deep scientific expertise, venture experience, and company-building. This positions us to support founders from early technical development through to commercial scale.

The element Hafnium was discovered in Copenhagen in 1922 and named after Hafnia – the Latin name for Copenhagen. Since then, it has become vital in modern technology, from aerospace to electronics. Our name reflects the complex process of scientific discovery and invention, symbolizing the resilience needed to turn unproven technological breakthroughs into impactful global solutions.

Frederik Heugh Dabelsteen Wandall
Venture Analyst at PSV Hafnium
Frederik Heugh Dabelsteen Wandall
Venture Analyst at PSV Hafnium

Frederik is the kind of person who genuinely enjoys digging deep into the unknown. He studies Physics at the Niels Bohr Institute, and when he’s not at uni, his idea of winding down is binge-watching nerdy videos about physics and mathematical phenomena. For Frederik, curiosity doesn’t switch off, it just finds a new rabbit hole.

He’s joining the PSV Hafnium team as a Venture Analyst, where he’ll support deal sourcing efforts in the hunt for cases that truly move things forward. With a sharp analytical mindset, a deep understanding of technology, and natural sciences, Frederik brings both intellectual rigor and an infectious can-do energy to the team.

He studies physics because he sees it as a way to learn the fundamental principles behind everything. As he puts it, physicists make the first discoveries; engineers turn them into something tangible. And what fascinates Frederik is the step beyond - how venture can help those ideas leave the lab, scale, and become solutions that improve everyday life.

Outside of his studies and the office, Frederik has no shortage of passions. Summers are spent surfing in Biarritz with his siblings, the rest of the year is divided between golfing with his granddad or playing tennis with his dad. Most recently, he’s also taken his 13-year-long love for basketball one step further by launching his own team with his closest friends.

Frederik brings analytical depth with hands-on efforts - reading the court, setting up the play, and knowing exactly when to take the shot.

We invest in early-stage companies that improve human livelihoods and planetary welfare, guided by impact and ethics.
